What Are Dentures?
A denture (complete or partial) is the prosthesis, artificial appliance that is used to replace missing teeth and adjacent tissues. It is designed from acrylic resin and sometimes nylon or a combination of metals. Besides being natural looking and comfortable, they can last for up to 10 years if well cared for.

Denture Treatment Process
The process of getting dentures may require several appointments to ensure a natural and comfortable fit. Nonetheless, here is what to expect when getting denture treatment:
- Initial Consultation: During your visit, the dentist will perform an oral examination to evaluate if denture treatment is the best solution for your case.
- Treatment process: If you’re a candidate for dentures, the process will then progress depending on the type of dentures that suits you best.
a) For complete dentures (used to replace an entire set of teeth)
The dentist will make the impressions of your teeth and mouth and use them to design your dentures. S/he will then remove the remaining teeth, and allow the gum to heal, which takes 2 to 3 months. During this period, your dentist may advise you to wear a temporary denture. Once the gum heals, the dentist will fit your customized dentures.
b) For partial dentures (used to replace one or more teeth)
First, the dentist will confirm that the soft tissue and remaining teeth are healthy. Then, s/he will move on to take an impression of your teeth to customize your denture. Once the set is ready, the gap is cleaned, and the denture clipped onto the adjacent existing teeth with clasps that hold it firmly in place.
